'Exceptionally Evil' Couple Accused Of Deadly Florida Shooting After Failed Facebook Marketplace Dirt Bike Purchase: Sheriff
A couple reportedly fled to Delaware after killing a west Florida man taking a Sunday motorcycle ride.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office claims Benjamin Mason III, 34, was “ambushed” in a rural area March 26. Mason crashed the bike, apparently after he was shot once, and died at a hospital.
Mason “ran into some exceptionally evil people,” Sheriff Grady Judd told a Tuesday news conference.
Deputies recently announced the arrest of Wesley Vazquez Andino, 28, and Adriana Oyola Del Valle, 26, in connection with the case. WTVT reported the two shared a home in Lakeland but left it after the shooting.
WTSP-TV reported the suspects were found at a relative's home in Wilmington, Delaware on April 7.
Oyola Del Valle reportedly told detectives the shooting stemmed from an attempt to buy a dirt bike on Facebook Marketplace.
She claimed the seller blocked the couple after they paid a $100 deposit. So the couple reportedly went to the home of the seller and found Mason on the bike.
Vasquez Andino allegedly fired a gun as Mason tried to ride away, police said.
The sheriff added that Mason actually was at his uncle's home after having an argument with his girlfriend. Mason asked for permission to try out the uncle's dirt bike.
“He was the ultimate victim, in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Judd explained.
A statement from Judd's office Tuesday said Vazquez Andino now is under a grant jury indictment for first-degree murder. Oyola Del Valle is charged with accessory to a capital felony.
