Mississippi Man Found Dead Under Christmas Tree After His Wife Killed Him In Front Of Their Child
A Mississippi wife and mother who claimed she shot her husband in self-defense instead was found guilty of murdering him.
A jury convicted Holly Ann Mitchell, 33, of second-degree murder and possession of methamphetamine on April 12.
Shawn Mitchell, 33, was found dead in his Columbia home in January 2019 after a bystander reported hearing a gunshot. His body was under a Christmas tree.
The caller said Holly Mitchell admitted shooting a man at the home. A prosecutor said the defendant killed her husband in front of their child after several domestic arguments.
“Holly Mitchell was escalating during this time, and had previously threatened the victim with the gun,” District Attorney Hal Kittrell told WDAM-TV. The same weapon was used in Shawn Mitchell's death.
A police search eventually found more than two grams of meth in the home.
