A man and woman in Hawaii were both found dead in what appeared to be a case of murder-suicide following an argument, authorities said.

Johnalynn Ilae, 36, and Frank Camaro, 48, recently met up and drove to White Plains Beach “to discuss things in his vehicle,” according to Honolulu Police Lt. Deena Thoemmes, Hawaii News Now reported.

The pair, who Thoemmes said knew each other, got into an altercation over “family matters” in the vehicle and headed to Camaro’s Waikele apartment, where the dispute continued.

“Frank gained control over her and strangled her,” Thoemmes said, declining to share specific details about the nature of the fight.

According to Thoemmes, after Camaro and Ilae went missing, investigators were able to use Camaro’s electronic devices to search for him.

On Jan. 26, Camaro’s body was found inthe Ala Moana Hotel, a property near his apartment. According to officials, Camaro died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Two days later, Ilae’s body was found in a bathtub in Camaro’s apartment. Thoemmes said Ilae’s wrists were bound with plastic ties and an autopsy determined her death was a homicide by strangulation.

In a statement following Ilae’s murder, her employer, First Hawaiian Bank, said she was a “well-loved team member.”

“Those of us who were fortunate enough to know and work with her have lost a dear friend. We will be making counseling services available for our employees ... and are keeping Johnalynn, her family and her friends in our thoughts during this difficult time,” the bank said.
