Nashville School Shooting: Police Release Body Camera Footage Of Officers Taking Down Active Shooter At The Covenant School

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has released body camera footage of officers taking down The Covenant School active shooter.
Around 10:15 a.m. on March 27, the first call came in to 911 regarding shots being fired at The Covenant School in Nashville, Metro Police said.
Officers rushed to the campus and in the video, they can be seen entering the school and searching through some of the classrooms before moving through the hallways. They eventually made their way up the stairs, where the shooter was located.
Gunshots can be heard in the video, so the officers made their way to that direction.
Four initial shots were fired and the shooter fell to the ground. Officers fired an additional four shots at that time.
In the video, officers are repeatedly telling the shooter to stop moving and “get your hand away from the gun” before they announced the suspect was down and removed the gun.
The two officers that fired on the shooter were Officer Rex Engelbert, a four-year MNPD veteran, and Officer Michael Collazo, a nine-year MNPD veteran, officials said.
Police announced six people, three nine-year-old’s and three adults, were killed at the hands of the active shooter.
Authorities identified the deceased as Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney and Hallie Scruggs, all aged nine, Mike Hill, age 61, Cynthia Peak, age 61, and Katherine Koonce, age 60.
Police identified the shooter as Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28. Officials said she attended the school years ago and arrived on campus driving her Honda Fit.
Hale was heavily armed with three guns, two of them assault-type weapons, and shot her way into the church/school through the doors on the side of the building, police said.
Investigators searched Hale’s vehicle after the shooting and found writings that revealed her attack was calculated and planned.

Police obtained a search warrant of her home, which resulted in the seizure of a sawed-off shotgun, a second shotgun and other evidence.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
