A North Carolina man was strangling his partner when the victim’s child tried using a machete to stop the assault from happening, police said.
Around 11:00 p.m. July 10, the Lexington Police Department said they responded to a call involving Toney Allison, 36, and his 33-year-old partner.
Once at the scene, police said they discovered Allison assaulted his partner by strangling her and using pepper spray.
Officials said the victim’s child tried to stop the assault from happening, as the youngster used a machete.
While Allison tried to take the weapon away, the child was cut on the face and hands, police said.
Authorities said the mother and child were taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers got the victim and child out of the house, and Allison barricaded himself in the home and would not come out, officials said.
After negotiation, Allison surrendered to police with no force being used, authorities said.
While Allison was being taken to Davidson County Jail, he requested medical evaluation because he was having trouble breathing, police said.
Allison was taken to the hospital and remains there, authorities said.
Once he is released from the hospital, he will be charged with assault on a female, assault by strangulation, felony assault on a child under 12 and assault on an officer, officials said.
Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing.
