STAND YOUR GROUND: NORTH CAROLINA BOY DEFENDS HOME BY SHOOTING AND KILLING MASKED INTRUDER

A 12-year-old boy defended his apartment by shooting and killing an intruder, according to police in North Carolina.
Shortly after midnight Saturday, Goldsboro, North Carolina, police went to an apartment for a reported shooting. There, they found resident Linda Ellis, 73, with a gunshot wound.
Nearby, they found a second person with gunshot wounds. Police identified that person as Khalil Herring, 19. Both people went to the hospital for treatment, and Herring later died.
Investigators determined that two masked suspects forced their way into the home and shot Ellis. Herring was identified as one of the suspects, and police have not named the other alleged perpetrator.

A 12-year-old boy who lived in the home shot at the suspects, which caused them to run away, police say.
Herring was shot by the youngster in the robbery attempt.
The Goldsboro Police Department does not anticipate filing charges against the juvenile who shot in self-defense. The armed robbery and shooting investigations are ongoing.
