Around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 7, officers responded to a convenience store parking lot in High Point, North Carolina, regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, the High Point Police Department said.

At the scene, police said they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Officials said lifesaving measures were performed on the victim, later identified as 46-year-old Rodney Rhoades, but he was pronounced dead at the store.

During the investigation, an individual was identified as a person of interest. This person of interest was arrested on unrelated charges following an incident in another jurisdiction, police said.

Officials interviewed the subject, a 14-year-old boy, who was then charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm, police said.

He is being held at the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center. Police said they continue to look for information on the second suspect.
