A 4-year-old girl was reported missing, then found dead in North Carolina. Now, police accuse her mom of murder.
On May 21, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police searched a home after a child was reported not to have been seen in several months. Officers found remains and police said they believe the remains found are those of a 4-year-old girl who had not been seen in several months, according to WITN.
The child’s name is being withheld, pending positive identification.
Detectives received tips that foul play may have been involved in the disappearance of the young girl.
Several people came forward voluntarily to be interviewed by detectives, including the girl’s mother, Malikah Diane Bennett, WITN reported.
Bennett has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, felony child abuse, inflicting physical injury and felony concealing a death.
Police have not said how or when the child died. They have also not released a possible motive for the alleged murder.
