A short time after moving in together, a man killed his girlfriend and left her remains in the house for days, police said.
On Oct. 24, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina announced they arrested Robert Edward Rathmann.
Around 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 17, deputies responded to a welfare check. When they arrived, deputies found 39-year-old Samantha Coppola dead in the home.
Investigators said they believe she was killed several days before being found. Authorities did not say how she died.
Rathmann, 34, was in a relationship with the victim and the two had recently moved in together.
The suspect was arrested a few days before the victim was found on burglary and assault charges for an unrelated matter, according to the sheriff’s office. He now has been charged with murder in connection to Coppola’s death.
A motive has not been released in the case.
