Police in North Carolina were at an apartment for a domestic call when they saw a mom stab her 1-year-old child in the back, authorities said.
On Oct. 11, police said they were on a domestic call in Greenville, North Carolina, when one of the officers followed 21-year-old Cierra Dyer into the apartment.
According to police, they were at the apartment complex because Dyer was fighting with a family member over custody of a 1-year-old baby, NewsChannel 12 reported.
Once in the apartment, police said they saw her pick up a knife and stab her child in the back, according to the report.
The officer immediately jumped in, which is when Dyer threw the knife on the floor, authorities said. Dyer was then arrested.
Medical personnel rushed the baby to Vidant Medical Center and officials said she is expected to survive the attack, according to the report.
Dyer was booked into jail and has been charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse, police said.
