Man accused of shooting victim, dropping him off at a NC hospital where he died
A man has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal North Carolina shooting, police said.
Around 6 p.m. Nov. 2, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a North Carolina hospital for a report of a gunshot. The victim, Jonathan O’Neal, was dropped off at the emergency room by others, according to the sheriff’s office.
O’Neal died later that same day.
Investigators determined O’Neal and Aron Burdell Watkins were in an altercation earlier in the day. Watkins shot O’Neal as the argument escalated, according to the sheriff’s office.
Watkins and a woman drove O’Neal to the hospital, where they dropped him off and then fled.
This week, police arrested Watkins and charged him with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon ad possession of a firearm by a felony. He is being held without bond.
Watkins was also charged in connection to a Nov. 18 incident where he allegedly assaulted a woman and took her female.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police at (910) 455-3113.
