Dispute Over Walmart Parking Spot Ends With One Dead, One In Cuffs

A dispute over a parking spot at a North Carolina Walmart turned deadly, police said. Now, a suspect is in cuffs.
Around 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 1, police in Concord, North Carolina, responded to a Walmart for a reported hit-and-run.
The victim, later identified as Leon Phillip Fortner, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said a dispute over a parking spot led a driver to hit Fortner with their car and then flee the scene.
The suspect was identified as Anthony Scott Amey, and he was arrested hours later. He was charged with felony hit-and-run. He is being held in jail on $50,000 bond.
“The Concord Police Department extends our sincere thoughts and prayers to the Fortner family and those impacted by the incident,” the agency said in a statement.
