Nebraska cops came to help a man who had fallen. He then allegedly confessed to a murder.

A man who fell down outside a building confessed to police that he had killed a man after they showed up to help him, authorities said.

Around 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 16, officers responded to a call of a person who fell outside of a building in the 1300 block of 8th Street in Columbus, Nebraska, according to Columbus police.

Police were initially told that the person had fallen and had a bump on his head. When officers arrived, they spoke with Michael J. Keener, 28, the person who fell, police stated.

While officers were talking with Keener, he stated that he had killed a person at another location.

Keener took officers to the second location in the 200 block of 16th Avenue, according to Columbus police. Police found a 77-year-old deceased man, who was identified as Larry Houdek.

Officers also found items belonging to the deceased victim on Keener.

Keener was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. He is being held at Platte Detention Facility.
