Pennsylvania man accused of killing neighbor with AR-15 in case of mistaken identity, police say
A Pennsylvania man is accused of shooting dozens of rounds from a semi-automatic weapon and killing his neighbor, police said.
On Feb. 13 shortly before 2 p.m., police responded to an East Lansdowne home after receiving reports of shots fired, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Officers arriving at the scene saw Yousuf Bahal, 30, shoot an AR-15 at least three times into a nearby home, police said in an arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet.
The officers ordered Bahal to drop his weapon and he surrendered without incident.
While searching the home Bahal allegedly fired at, the affidavit states, officers discovered the suspect's 35-year-old neighbor inside suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooting victim was rushed to University of Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
In an interview, Bahal allegedly told detectives he shot at his neighbor’s window after spotting who he believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, police said. Bahal allegedly claimed the man had been “sneaking into [his] house and stealing things” and blowing smoke into his residence through an air-conditioning unit, according to the affidavit.
Bahal was booked into the Delaware County prison without bail on charges including murder, reckless endangerment, and related offenses.
