A Nevada man has been arrested after he allegedly shot to death the mother of his child days after he was convicted of abusing her, according to authorities.
Around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 5, officers responded to a home in Sun Valley and found 20-year-old Jennifer Beltran-Galassi inside a car with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.
Authorities identified 21-year-old Esteban Garcia as the primary suspect and found him at a nearby residence.
Garcia was arrested on Aug. 6 and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility, police said.
He was charged with open murder and owning/possessing a firearm by a prohibited person and is being held on a $1 million bond.
On July 27, Garcia was convicted of domestic battery and abuse, neglect or endangerment of a child, according to authorities.
A judge issued a no-contact order with Beltran-Galassi and sentenced Garcia to probation.
