More than a year after a fatal stabbing in New Jersey, the suspect has been arrested in Florida, prosecutors said.
Now, the alleged killer faces being sent back to New Jersey to face charges.
Around 3:30 p.m. on March 2, 2021, police in Bayonne, New Jersey, responded to a home for a reported stabbing, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. When police arrived, they found a man with multiple stab wounds.
The victim was identified as Mathew Mortimer, 29, according to prosecutors.
Mortimer was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors noted.
Investigators identified Elvis Santana, 32, as a suspect and he was arrested on unrelated charges in Miami on May 25, 2022. During the investigation, police in Florida determined he was wanted in connection to the 2021 homicide.
Santana is now charged with murder and other counts in connection to the New Jersey incident and faces extradition to face the charges.
