I got beef with these ******”: Man opens fire after friends agree to fight to settle dispute: Report
Two people tried to settle their dispute with a boxing match at a party when a third man grabbed a gun and yelled, “I got beef with these ******” and opened fire.
One was killed and now the alleged shooter faces a murder charge, according to a report.
Kaya Brown, 20, was charged with an open count of murder in connection to the Feb. 12 incident at an Albuquerque, New Mexico, apartment.
The Albuquerque Journal obtained a copy of the criminal complaint that detailed how two friends, Ryan White and Antonio Chaves, were trying to fix their friendship after a falling out.
White sent Chaves a message inviting him to a party where they could have a fight and then let their issues be bygones. Brown was at the apartment, according to the Journal.
Chaves and his girlfriend arrived at the apartment and Chaves had a gun. He later told police he was concerned the agreement was a ruse to get him to the apartment, the Journal reported.
Seeing the apprehension, White took out his handgun, unloaded it and gave it to his girlfriend, according to the report. He also put an AR pistol on the couch. Chaves followed suit, giving up his gun and the two agreed to fight.
As they stepped out to the patio, Brown grabbed the pistol and opened fire in front of the partygoers.
White was shot in the chest and died from his injuries, according to the Journal.
Brown fled the apartment and Chaves also left for fear Brown would return with another weapon. The other people at the party barricaded the door and waited for the police.
Brown did return, but this time police were waiting for him, according to the Journal. Brown told officials he and White were shooting guns on the porch, and he must have shot himself.
The people at the party said Brown was drinking and using drugs throughout the night and his behavior grew increasingly erratic, the Journal reported.
