High, delusional man accused of killing his teenage roommate, police in New Mexico say
A teen is accused of being high and delusion when he shot and killed his roommate and left him on a balcony, according to a report.
Darin Penn, 19, was arrested by police in Roswell, New Mexico, this week, according to the Roswell Daily Record. He is accused of first-degree murder in connection to the slaying of 17-year-old Mason Mayes.
Police were called to an apartment around 7 a.m. on March 26. There, they found Mayes on the balcony with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Daily Record.
Mayes was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Penn called 911 during the incident and police found him hiding in a bedroom closet, according to the report. In the closet there was also a rifle used in the shooting.
Investigators said Penn may have been under the influence of a drug and “possibly delusional” during the shooting, according to the Daily Record.
