A New Orleans man stepped on someone’s sneakers, and he is now fighting for his life after allegedly being seriously injured by the man wearing those sneakers, authorities and family said.
On Sept. 24, Scott Wagner reportedly left his job at Mr. Ed’s Seafood in the French Quarter and accidentally stepped on a male's shoes as he walked by, WWL-TV reported.
The person allegedly punched Wagner from behind in retaliation and then continued to punch him until he lost consciousness, police said.
Police responding to the incident found the victim “alone and officers could not speak to him to get any information, let alone contacts,” according to WWL-TV.
The alleged assailant, who is now wanted on a second-degree battery charge, reportedly left the scene with another individual, according to a photo released by the New Orleans Police Department.
While police have not publicly identified Wagner as the victim, his family spoke with WWL-TV and claimed he suffered a traumatic brain injury, which he may not survive.
