A 29-year-old New York man gunned down a 22-year-old man just days before Christmas last year, police say.

On Dec.19, officials say Brandon Rivera, 29, shot and killed Joseph Evans, 22, in the victim’s Staten Island community.

According to the Staten Island Advance, the shooting was sparked by a dispute between Rivera and Evans and happened shortly after sunset.

Evans was walking to a nearby deli to pick up a sandwich and was just a few blocks away from his home, police said.

Authorities said Rivera approached Evans on foot and shot the victim three times — in the head, back and arms.

Evans was taken to Richmond University Medical Center and was pronounced dead a few hours later, police said.

The Staten Island Advance reported Rivera was arrested on May 10 and charged with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal weapon possession.

Rivera pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being held without bail. His next court appearance is set for August, authorities said.
