On June 6, 2019, a family in Cumming heard the newborn girl crying. Responding sheriff’s deputies located the child and rescued her.

“This child was tied up in a plastic bag and thrown into woods like a bag of trash,” Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said at a news conference announcing Jiwani’s arrest.

The child, who staff at an area hospital called Baby India, survived the ordeal and is “happy and healthy,” according to the sheriff.

Investigators were able to identify Jiwani as the child’s mother using DNA that led them to the father, who the sheriff said they believe was unaware Jiwani was even pregnant at the time.

Sheriff Freeman said detectives believe Jiwani had given birth to her daughter in a vehicle before allegedly putting her in the plastic bag and abandoning her in thewoods.

Jiwani was being held at the Forsyth County jail without bond.
