A New Jersey volunteer firefighter and his wife lured a teenage boy into their home last month and then raped the victim, according to authorities.
The investigation began last month when the teenager’s mother contacted police to report the sexual assault, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said.
During the investigation, officials determined Luis Morales-Sarmiento, 33, was acquainted with the victim and invited him to his home.
Once there, Luis and his wife, Katherine Morales-Sarmiento, 22, took the teen into their bedroom and sexual contact took place, authorities said.
The couple was taken into custody on Aug. 9 at the Prosecutor’s Office and were released the next day after the first appearance in court, officials said.
Luis and Katherine were both charged with second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
The case is now being prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment, according to authorities.
