A 26-year-old New Jersey mother has arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death of her 5-month-old daughter, officials say.
On Dec. 3, the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office said Penns Grove police responded to a 911 call regarding a disturbance in the backyard at the Penns Grove Gardens apartment complex.
Once at the scene, authorities said they found Kristhie I. Alcazar, 26, taking part in an argument with another person. They also found the body of a 5-month-old infant with stab wounds to the chest.
While at the scene, detectives recovered evidence, which included multiple knives, officials said.
An autopsy was completed on the baby, which determined the cause of death to be homicide as a result of the stab wounds, authorities said.
Officials said nobody else was injured and the child’s father was not at the residence at the time of the incident.
Alcazar was arrested and now faces a murder charge, officials said.
Police have not said what led the woman to allegedly stab the baby.
