A New Jersey woman went out for a run but was followed home by a man who raped and robbed her, police say.
Around 1 p.m. on Oct. 19, police responded to a report of a burglary and sexual assault by an armed assailant, according to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel.
Officials said the woman was out for a run when she was followed home by the suspect.
Union County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Sheets told NJ Advance Media the suspect was in a vehicle at one point while the woman was out running and then he left the house in the same vehicle after the alleged sexual assault happened.
Sheets added the woman was treated for her injuries, which are not considered life-threatening. No one else was in the home when the assault took place and the woman did not know the man who attacked her.
The investigation is ongoing, but officials released a composite sketch of the suspect in the assault.
Anyone with information or knows the suspect is asked to contact Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Annie Coll at (908) 347-2474 or Westfield Police Department Detective Betsy Savnik at (908) 789-6078.
