A teen confronted two gunmen who forced their way into his home, and it cost the 16-year-old his life.
Now, police said they arrested one suspect and are on the hunt for a second.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, police in Clovis, New Mexico, responded to an apartment complex and found 16-year-old Jessie Villanes-Lerma dead from a gunshot wound to his neck.
A resident said he was with Lerma and an 11-month-old child inside the apartment when two armed men entered, according to police.
The resident struggled with the gunmen when Villanes-Lerma came in from another room. He confronted one of the intruders and was shot and killed, police said. The gunmen then fled the scene.
Police said the shooting was the result of drugs being sold from the apartment.
This week, officers said suspect Jimmy Whitlock was arrested in Raleigh, North Carolina in connection to the murder case. Police are still trying to find suspect Jessie Villanes. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (575) 769-1921.
