Nursing home assistant in North Carolina arrested in connection to child rape case
A nursing home assistant in North Carolina was arrested in connection to a child rape case, police said.
Christopher Gerald Cooper, 56, was arrested by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 7. He was wanted in Guilford County. He now faces charges of first-degree rape, four counts of statutory sex offense with child under 15, first-degree statutory rape, indecent liberties with a child and two counts of first-degree sex offense with a child.
Investigators have released few details about the alleged assault on the child.
On Oct. 7, Nash County deputies received a tip about Cooper’s whereabouts, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was working as a nursing assistant, and police arrested him at a nursing home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, according to the sheriff’s office. He was arrested without incident.
Cooper went before a magistrate who set bond on his charges at $1 million. He remains in the Nash County Detention Center.
