North Carolina Man Living Next to Daycare Accused of Threatening to ‘Kill All the Children’

A North Carolina man was arrested twice within a 24-hour time span after he allegedly threatened to “kill all the children,” according to authorities.

On Nov. 1, Kevin Edral Douglas was arrested after police found messages through the cybertip reporting service on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website, according to WTVD-TV.

Police in Cary found the alleged messages on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, officials said.

Douglas, who was staying at the Extended Stay America in the town, allegedly posted messages about harming children, according to federal documents.

Some of the messages were jumbled and incoherent, but police said they were still able to find the phrases “I’m going to murder every child in the hotel now” and “I’m going to kill all the children,” WTVD-TV reported.

Court documents show that Bright Horizons at Harrison Park, a daycare, is located across the street from where Douglas was staying at the time.

Police said they also found phrases in Douglas’ writings that could be references to the daycare, such as "in a ritual-killing I'm going to kill all the…children in the area…there's 45 children near me."

Authorities said they believe those words could “reasonably be referring to a physical attack against” Bright Horizons.

Douglas was released from jail on Nov. 1 on a $1,000 bond, officials said.

However, he was arrested again less than a day later after he allegedly violated an order not to use any electronic devices, according to police.

Before the second arrest, Douglas reportedly called the WRAL newsroom at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 2 and said he had seen himself mentioned on TV more than 55 times because of the prior arrest, WRAL reported.

Douglas told WRAL that he was only reporting the threats and he was not the person making them.

WRAL spoke to Douglas’s mother, who said he allegedly suffers from mental illness but refuses treatment.

Douglas, who has an extensive history of threatening behavior, was released from federal prison in 2016 after threatening to kill a person at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., WRAL reported.

He also was charged with cyberstalking three times in the past 15 years, but each case was dismissed. His criminal history dates back to 2002 and spans multiple states, authorities said.

Douglas is next scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20, and his new bond was set at $20,000.
