North Carolina Man Accused of Fatally Shooting Girlfriend, Stealing SUV

A North Carolina man has been arrested after he allegedly killed his girlfriend and then stole her SUV, according to authorities.

Around 5 p.m. on Nov. 23, officers found 41-year-old Jessica Riggs shot to death inside her home near Greenville, according to WITN.

James Purvis, Jr., 35, was the victim’s live-in boyfriend and he became a person of interest in Riggs’ murder, according to authorities.

Deputies said Purvis was seen leaving the home with the woman’s Ford Explorer.

Police were able to locate the stolen vehicle in Raleigh near a bus station, officials said.

Purvis was also caught in Raleigh and he was initially charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, authorities said.

He is now being charged with murder and remains in the Pitt County Jail without bond.

A possible motive for the shooting has not been released by police.
