72-year-old man found dead in North Carolina, woman accused of murder

A woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 72-year-old man in North Carolina, police said.

On Dec. 4, police in Hickory, North Carolina, responded to the 2000 block of Startown Road after receiving a call of a deceased person at the residence.

Officers found the body of Robert Bruce Godfrey, 72, inside the residence, according to Hickory police.

During the initial investigation, Godfrey’s vehicle was discovered missing from the residence and was reported stolen, police said. The stolen vehicle was recovered by police in possession of Abraham Adon Jr., 28.

Police attempted to stop Adon, who fled to South Carolina.

Adon is currently being held in South Carolina awaiting extradition for the charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, according to Hickory police.

On Dec. 8, Hickory Police arrested Bryana Salymar Martines, 22, for the murder of Godfrey. Police did not say if she knew the victim or release a possible motive in the killing.

Martines was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. She is being held at the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond.
