A North Dakota woman was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a community club.
According to police, Renee Simpson stole $7,191 that belonged to the Valley City Eagles Club.
Officers say a man came to the Valley City Police Department on Jan. 13 to report that money had been taken out of a bag in his vehicle. He told officers that the passenger door was open and the large bills that had been in the bag were missing while there were still $1 and $5 bills in the bag.
At approximately the same time, a minor called police to tell them that someone had taken the money and gave it to him. He said he didn't want to say who gave it to him so they wouldn't get in trouble.
After investigating, police identified Simpson as the suspect. They tried to call her, but her phone went straight to voicemail.
An attorney for Simpson told police on Jan. 14 that she was going to turn herself in. Simpson, who said she spent $130 of the money, returned the rest of the money and was arrested.
Court documents state that Simpson apologized many times, saying she had a gambling problem, according to Valley News Live.
