NYC mother of two found dead with her throat slashed, boyfriend family calls ‘a monster’ accused of murder
New York City police have arrested the boyfriend of a mother of two who was found with her throat slit after telling a friend she feared for her life, authorities announced.
Nashan Walsh, 35, faces murder charges in connection to the death of 37-year-old Bjana James at the Bronx apartment they shared, WCBS-TV reported.
According to the station, family said the victim texted a friend on March 16 and said she feared Walsh. Nobody heard from her after that.
James’ concerned mother attempted to check on her daughter but couldn’t get inside the apartment. A sibling was able to enter the residence around 2:30 a.m. on March 19 and found James with a stab wound to the chest and a slashed throat.
James’ 8-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son reportedly were staying with their grandmother at the time of the murder.
“It's heartbreaking for something like that to happen,” building superintendent Vishanand Persaud said. “She's a humble person, a mom, always says hi to everybody when she comes out.”
James’ mother, Stacey James, called her daughter a “wonderful, person” who was “very gifted.”
“Many people loved her," the mother told WNBC, “but her power was taken by a monster that just took her life senselessly.”
Stacey James believed her daughter was the victim of domestic violence and the murder “could have been avoided” but “it was just too late.”
“I feel that if anyone knows about anything about anybody that's having a violence problem, don't hide from it... let someone know,” she said.
