An Ohio Man Was Released from Jail After a Domestic Violence Arrest. Weeks Later, He Killed the Victim.
An Ohio man was released from jail after serving time in connection with a domestic violence arrest. Weeks later, he was accused of killing the same victim.
On Feb. 15, 2022, officers were called to Hilltop Village Apartments in Toledo on a “check the safety” call after family members said Ashley Darrington, 24, failed to drop off her two children, ages 1 and 2, at daycare that morning, WTOL reported.
When officers arrived, they found Darrington dead in her bedroom after she was shot at five times, including once to the head wound, according to WTOL.
Her two children were inside the home and were unharmed, the station reported.
Police identified 28-year-old Robert Sherman as the suspect in the case. Sherman and Darrington have children together.
Sherman was released from prison weeks earlier after serving time for domestic violence against Darrington, according to WTOL 11.
An arrest warrant obtained by WTOL 11 stated that Sherman physically assaulted Darrington while she was 19 weeks pregnant with their second child in April 2020.
A witness told police they saw Sherman coming and going from the apartment several times in the past week, and the two were involved in loud arguments, according to WTOL 11.
Sherman was recently convicted of aggravated murder, endangering children, domestic violence, among other charges. A judge sentenced him to life in prison without the eligibility of parole.
