An Ohio Man Went on a Walk With His Wife and She Admitted to Cheating Years Earlier. So, He Grabbed a Log and Beat Her to Death.
An Ohio couple going through a divorce were on a walk when the wife told her husband she had been cheating. His response was to grab a log and beat her to death.
A jury found Santiago Martinez guilty of murder for the 2021 death of his wife, Alexandra Berrios, earlier that year, according to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.
A Franklin County Common Pleas Court judge later sentenced Martinez to the mandatory sentence of life in prison with eligibility for parole after 15 years.
Martinez testified that he and his wife were taking a walk in Darby Creek Metro Park in Franklin County, Ohio, on March 22, 2021, according to prosecutors. That is when Berrios told him that she had been unfaithful years earlier while he was living in the U.S. and she in El Salvador.
The suspect then grabbed a log and beat his wife to near death.
She was in a vegetative state and remained that way until she died on May 2, 2021, prosecutors noted.
Martinez said he and his wife were in the middle of divorce proceedings at the time of the incident.
When authorities found the victim, she had multiple cuts, lacerations and a broken skull, according to WBNS. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
Martinez was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder and felonious assault. Those charged were upgraded to murder when his wife died.
