Recently, a judge in Ohio sentenced Kemari James to 32 years to life in prison for killing La’Nesha Workman. He was convicted by a jury for his role in her death and the attempted murder of Andre Haynes.

According to reports, on April 17, 2020, convicted felon James pulled a gun on Haynes who he thought had stolen his items. James fired, but instead of hitting Haynes, he shot and killed Workman.

The shooting happened in front of two other children.

James maintained he was innocent, even as his sentence was handed down, according to WFMJ.

"I'm sorry about your lost children from my heart but I believe deep down in your heart and souls you know I didn't kill your daughter," James said, according to WFMJ.

State prosecutors said there was no way to bring back the victim or her unborn child. But they hoped that the sentence brought Workman’s family a sense of justice.

Prospectors said they believe James will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Workman’s mother, April Riggins, pleaded with the court to keep James behind bars. He was a convicted felon and was not supposed to have a gun when he killed the pregnant woman.

“He’s dangerous if he was ever to be set free he would put another family through the same thing, and I truly believe that,” said Riggins, according to WKBN. “I’m angry because La’Nesha cannot be here to raise her babies I’m mad our life has been turned upside down.”
