A man in Oklahoma has been sentenced to life in prison after shooting his then-wife in the head in 2021 because she “would not shut up,” according to authorities.

Around 6:00 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2021, officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at a home in Spencer, the Spencer Police Department stated.

Once at the scene, officers found a female, later identified as Jessica Houchins, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

On Oct. 21, 2021, investigators arrested the victim’s husband, Aaron Houchins, on a charge of intent to kill, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

Houchins took a blind plea — a no contest plea without an agreement on punishment — in connection with the shooting and he recently was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years, officials said.

Jessica got a protection order against her husband in December 2021, court records show. In June 2022, she filed for divorce from her husband and it was finalized in November 2022.
