Two parents have been arrested and charged with homicide after their child was found unresponsive nearly a year ago, police in North Carolina said.
Around 3:30 p.m. on March 13, 2021, the Gaston County Police Department responded to the 2200 block of Acme Road near Belmont, North Carolina, for an unresponsive infant.
The infant was found dead, according to Gaston County police.
The police department’s Criminal Investigation Unit began looking into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
Investigators have not said how the child died.
On Feb. 8, 2022, police arrested the infant’s parents, Rocky Clay Beatty Jr., 36, and Brittany Kristen Canipe, 32, in connection with the death. However, officials were mum about what led them to charge the two parents.
Both were charged with second-degree homicide. Beatty and Canipe are being held at the Gaston County Jail.
