Idaho Suspect Accused Of Murdering Man Behind Planet Fitness Gym, Police Say
An Idaho man was arrested in connection to the murder of a man in a parking lot behind a Planet Fitness gym, police said.
According to the Idaho Falls Police Department, around 4 p.m. on March 30, officers responded to a call about a possibly deceased person and found the victim, later identified as 44-year-old Ulises Rangel, shot to death.
Investigators obtained security footage of the area and gathered other evidence that led them identify Jake Eilander, 37, as a suspect in the case as well as a second person of interest who was at the scene at the time of the incident, police said.
Almost five hours after Rangel’s body was discovered, police received a tip that Eilander was at a home in the area.
Officers surrounded the residence and found Eilander and the person of interest inside a garage and detained both without incident, according to police.

“Near where Eilander had been officers recovered a loaded handgun with ammunition consistent with evidence found at the crime scene,” police said, noting the person with him who was at the crime scene was ultimately released without charges.
Eilander was booked into the Bonneville County jail for second-degree murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
