Bodycam video shows Phoenix officer fatally shoot man with scissors and knife after woman stabbed multiple times
The Phoenix Police Department has released 911 audio and bodycam video after a woman was stabbed multiple times and an officer killed her alleged attacker.
On Feb. 7 around 1 p.m., officers responded to reports of a woman who was wounded by a man armed with a knife, later identified as Emilio Chamizo, 30, according to officials.
A witness told an emergency dispatcher Chamizo was leaving the scene. An officer located the suspect and commanded him to get down on the ground.
According to video from the officer's bodycam, Chamizo ignored the order and began walking into an alleyway. When the officer pulled up and stopped in his squad car, Chamizo, who was armed with a knife and scissors, turned and began to approach the officer.
From a distance of about 20 feet, the officer ordered Chamizo to drop the knife and shot him after Chamizo raised both hands.
The wounded man then stumbled toward a second officer and collapsed. Chamizo was transported to an area hospital, where he died.
“Conclusions about whether the actions of the officers are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete,” police officials said, noting an internal and criminal investigation of the deadly incident are underway.
The stabbed woman is expected to survive her injuries, according to police.
