Portland man accused of beating man to death during street robbery

A Portland, Oregon, man is accused of beating a victim to death during a robbery, police said.

Portland police responded to a disturbance near Southwest Broadway and Southwest Ankeny Street and found 50-year-old Patrick Pruitt unconscious with serious injuries on July 15.

Paramedics transported him to the hospital, where his injuries were determined to be life-threatening. He was pronounced dead on July 26.

Investigating officers learned there was a fight between Pruitt and another man. The other man involved left the scene before officers arrived, according to Portland Police.

Detectives identified the suspect, 31-year-old Antonio L. Howard, and obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to Portland police

Officials said the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force found and arrested Howard in Northeast Portland around 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 16.

Howard was booked into the Multnomah County jail on first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and first-degree robbery.
