Two men in Florida are under arrest for murder years after an expectant mother was shot multiple times and died, police said.

Gerod Deshea Fields, 28, and George Prince Jr., 29, were identified as suspects in the deaths of 19-year-old Iyana McGraw and her baby and taken into custody last month.

On Oct. 7, 2019, McGraw, who was nine months pregnant, was shot at her Jacksonville townhouse, WJAX-TV reported.

McGraw was pronounced dead from her gunshot wounds at an area hospital, but doctors successfully delivered her daughter, Milan. The newborn passed away from complications stemming from the shooting three months after her birth.

McGraw, police said, was likely not intended to be the suspects' target.

According to an arrest report obtained by WJAX-TV, a witness in the case claimed one of the suspects, Prince, believed McGraw’s boyfriend, Miles Hall, had shot at his apartment earlier the day of the murder as part of an alleged drug feud. Prince allegedly decide to retaliate by shooting up McGraw’s home, which was in the same complex, despite a second witness telling him Hall may not have been responsible.

The report states Prince allegedly responded: “I don’t care. I kill women, and children too.”

Fields, the second suspect in the case, was arrested in possession of a gun authorities claimed was used in McGraw’s murder. A witness said Fields allegedly said Prince was to pay him $1,000 to be part of the shooting but he never ended up receiving any money, an arrest report states.

McGraw’s aunt, Gloria McGraw, told WJAX-TV news of Field and Prince’s arrests was “bittersweet.”

“Bitter, because it doesn’t bring [Iyana and Milan] back. Sweet, because we have justice,” she said.

The station reported Hall, the victim’s boyfriend, is serving three years behind bars after he recently pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection to guns and drugs found at the apartment where his girlfriend was shot.
