California Preschool Teacher Arrested on Murder Charge During Children’s Naptime, Officials Say
A preschool teacher in California was arrested on a murder charge during her young student’s naptime, police said.
Officers recently took into custody Diana Ornelas, 22, who was employed at the Children’s Center of the Stanford Community, in connection with the killing of Oliver Waterfall, 24, The Stanford Daily reported.
“The arrest happened at naptime, and outside of the perimeter of the CCSC [Children’s Center of the Stanford Community] campus. Children were not present when this occurred, and it did not disrupt operations,” CCSC officials wrote in a message to parents.
The daycare facility is a non-profit that employs around 50 staffers and cares for about 200 children.

Waterfall’s body was located on April 11 near a highway. Police believe he had been fatally shot around a month earlier.
A second man, Dennis Novoa, 27, has also been charged in connection with the case.
Ornelas was being held without bail. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 17 for her arraignment.
