Putin’s Terrifying Warning: ‘Europe’s Capitals Will Be Targeted’ in Response to U.S. Missile Deployment in Germany
Vladimir Putin has issued a stark warning, threatening to target European capitals amid escalating tensions as the US plans to deploy hypersonic missiles in Germany.
This Cold War-style standoff raises fears of a potential World War III, with Russia attempting to intimidate the West into retreat.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned citizens of nations that might host these American missiles.
"We [Russia] have enough capacity to contain these missiles, but the potential victims are the capitals of these countries," Peskov stated, The Sun reported.
He highlighted the paradox created by these deployments, noting, "Europe is a target for our missiles, our country is a target for US missiles in Europe."
The hypersonic missiles in question, including Tomahawk cruise and SM-6s, have a significantly longer range than the current US arsenal in Europe, according to the BBC.
Previously banned under a 1988 treaty between Russia and the US, the treaty was violated by Putin in 2014.
These American missiles are intended for "episodic" deployment and are set to arrive in Germany, the first country to host them, in 2026.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius commented that the deployment would provide Europe with time to develop its own capabilities, addressing the "increasingly serious gap in capability" compared to Russia and the US.
Russia has already utilized its hypersonic missiles against one European capital, Kyiv, most recently in a devastating attack on a children's hospital, described as "genocidal."
Poland is also considering intercepting Russian missiles that fly over Ukrainian airspace. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski mentioned the dilemma they face: if they shoot down missiles only when they enter Polish airspace, debris could threaten Polish citizens and property.

He added, "The Ukrainians are saying, ‘Please, we will not mind, do it over our airspace when they’re in imminent danger of crossing into Polish territory.’"
Missiles have become a critical component of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with the Kremlin targeting civilian infrastructure.
The UK has supplied Ukraine with Storm Shadow missiles, affirming that it is up to Kyiv to decide how to use them. Lord Cameron, during a visit in May, stated, "In terms of what the Ukrainians do, in our view, it is their decision about how to use these weapons. They’re defending their country, they were illegally invaded by Putin and they must take those steps."
