Russian officials have reported that air defenses shot down two drones flying over Moscow, the most recent occurrence in a series of drone attacks seemingly directed at the country's increasingly vulnerable capital.
According to The Washington Post, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that 11 drones were also intercepted near the city of Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014.
The Kremlin has accused Kyiv of orchestrating the most recent drone attacks.
While Kyiv has not formally admitted responsibility for the recent surge of drone attacks, Ukrainian authorities have consistently asserted actions against targets in Russia are justified during the ongoing war, The Post reported.
A spokesperson for Ukraine's armed forces in the south told the publication the intentional dismantling of resources and reserves within Russia “fits into the logic and tactics of warfare."
According to a statement on Telegram by Russia's Defense Ministry, nine drones targeting Crimea were downed by electronic warfare systems, resulting in their crash into the Black Sea. Additionally, two more drones were shot down by air defenses.
There were no reports of deaths or casualties from these attacks.
