An elderly man was beaten to death in Rhode Island and police say they have arrested the suspect killer, according to a report.
This week, Robert Ayers, 44, was arraigned on first-degree murder and burglary charges in connection to the case, according to WPRI.
On Aug. 24, police in Providence, Rhode Island, responded to a home and found 75-year-old Robert Fountaine dead, according to WPRI. At first nothing seemed out of place, but a medical examiner determined his death was a homicide.
Police have not offered further details, but an official told WPRI that there were some aspects that made police skeptical Fountaine died of natural causes.
Investigators said Ayers followed the victim home and assaulted him inside an apartment, according to the report. Fountaine later died from his injuries.
Ayers is being held in jail without bond.
