A human skull found in Georgia has been confirmed to be a missing South Carolina woman, police said. Now, her fiancé faces accusations of murder.
In April, police found a human skull in the woods in Buford, Georgia, according to authorities.
The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the skull belonged to a woman between the ages of 20 and 35 years old, police said.
However, it wasn’t until they partnered with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigators identified the skull as 32-year-old Brittany Davis, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Davis lived with her fiance, 42-year-old Michael Wilkerson, in Greenville, South Carolina, before her family reported her missing in March 2020, according to Fox Carolina.
After Davis’ disappearance, Wilkerson moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia, and was living about 13 miles from where Davis’ skull was found, police said.
Wilkerson was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on Aug. 24 but then extradited to Lawrenceville, South Carolina, a week later, authorities said.
He is being held on one count of murder in the Greenville County Detention Center with no bond, police said. In South Carolina, only a circuit court judge can set bond on a murder charge.
The motive for this murder is still unknown and police are asking anyone with information on the case to call the Greenville Police Department at (864) 271-5333.
