A 71-year-old man is accused of gunning down his stepson during a long-standing beef, police said.
On Sept. 18, police in Lexington County, South Carolina, responded to a shooting at a home on landfill lane.
When authorities arrived, they found 52-year-old Brain Garris dead from a gunshot, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators identified his stepdad, 71-year-old Carl Sims as the suspected gunman.
“Based on the information investigators have gathered in this case, this is the result of a long-running family dynamic between the two men,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “The latest disagreement between them centered on Garris borrowing Sims’ vehicle last night.”
Garris lived near Sims and the shooting site, police said. Garris is the suspect’s stepson.
Sims was charged with murder and is being held in a South Carolina jail without bond.
