A South Carolina man is accused of shooting his wife to death over the weekend.
Alonzo James Riley, 33, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after Kia Riley was reportedly found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on Aug. 7, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
"Based on the information detectives gathered at the scene on Sprahler Street, Riley used a handgun to shoot his wife, who was not armed, multiple times in the upper body," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a statement.
"Riley was then seen leaving the scene by an off-duty police officer who lives nearby."
Lexington County investigators and Gaston officers said Riley came home with a handgun that matched the caliber of shell casings recovered at the scene.
Riley was arrested and jailed at the Lexington County Detention Center. He was not given bond as in South Carolina, only a circuit court judge can set bond on murder charges.
