A middle school teacher is accused of assaulting a student in school after he went to the wrong classroom following a trip to the bathroom, according to a report.
Brenda Dean Inabinette, 58, was arrested on Aug. 30 by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in South Carolina in connection to the incident, according to WIS.
Investigators said a student told an assistant principal about the incident that allegedly occurred last week, according to the report.
The student said he accidentally went back to the wrong classroom after using the restroom and that started the encounter with the teacher, WIS noted.
Inabinette grabbed the student by their ID lanyard and said, “You make me want to strangle you,” according to the report. Administrators said the student was physically and emotionally shaken after the incident.
School district officials put Inabinette on leave following the incident.
“Please know the safety of our students is our top priority, and we will always strive to be transparent with families about incidents that take place at our school,” school principal Don Hardie said in a message to parents, according to WIS.
