Florida Man Allegedly ‘Mutilated’ Woman He Sexually Assaulted At Knifepoint, Sheriff’s Office Says
A Florida man allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at knifepoint and then “mutilated” her, according to authorities.
Officers acting on a citizen's tip were able to locate and place Bruce Whitehead, 54, under arrested on Dec. 15, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
Five days earlier, on Dec. 10, Whitehead approached a woman and the sheriff’s office said she willingly entered his car, WKMG reported.
The suspect then drove to a convenience store for water and after he left, he again stopped the car, got out and went to the passenger’s side door. According to a sheriff’s office incident report, Whitehead allegedly held a knife to the woman’s throat and he sexually assaulted her.
“After he sexually battered her, he attempted to murder our victim, and at that point, our victim bravely fought him off and was able to escape to a nearby subdivision,” said Cpl. Evan Avila, of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office sex crimes unit.
The woman later said she believed she was going to die, the incident report states.
The sheriff’s office noted the suspect allegedly “mutilated” the victim during the attack.
Avila called Whitehead a “monster.” “That’s my personal take,” he said. “At the sheriff’s office we do believe him to be a danger to the community, which is why we have reached out to the citizens of Central Florida in an effort to bring him in so he doesn’t harm somebody else."
Whitehead was previously convicted in 1986 of kidnapping, armed sexual battery, and first-degree attempted murder in Duval County. He spent 20 years behind bars in connection with that case.
