Months after a homeless man was killed in a New Mexico park by an alleged drug dealer, police said they arrested the suspect.
Last week, police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, announced the arrest of Joseph T. Garcia.
He is accused of shooting Andrew Aguilar on June 21 at Coronado Park, police said.
Video surveillance showed Garcia walking through the park around 8:40 p.m., according to police. The suspect stopped a few feet short of Aguilar as he sat under a tree.
Garcia then took out a gun, shot the victim and walked back to his bicycle, police said. The suspect then fled the park.
Police determined Garcia sold drugs out of a nearby motel and took them to homeless people in the park, authorities said. Garcia sectioned off the land for people to live in the park.
After the shooting, police arrested a major drug supplier and found numerous drugs and arrested three people.
Garcia is now charged with open murder and tampering with evidence.
